Er.. back?
Hiya... a return post of sorts, though I've been using LJ frequently through communities since this journal was somewhat abandoned.

My biggest fandom, Doctor Who, that I'd been in love with for ages, started to... deviate, I guess, from what I liked. While originally a Rose fan, I was more than happy for her to leave at the end of season two, but with everything that's happened since, I've been ready to throw something sharp at the writers. Everything became very... epic. Which is good, don't get me wrong, but I just wish that we could go back to the good ol' days where each episode could be self-contained without being related to some overreaching story arc about the Doctor's Tragic Past and that was just FUN.

Maybe once Matt Smith comes along, I'll give it another go, and see if the writers will inject some fresher material.

So... since I've been unactive on this journal, I've graduated High School and finished one year of University. And matured somewhat, I think ^^ Looking at some of my old posts, especially my angsting about moving to New Zealand, are downright cringeworthy. Nooobody understands me! My parents are monsters!!
Moving here, while I miss my friends still, was one of the best things that could have happened. I was able to go to university, something I would never have got the marks for in Australia. I've also found a new career path and made some amazing friends; ones I can see being close to for a long, long time. I'm now studying Japanese and Linguistics as my major with Asian Studies as a minor and taking papers in TESOL to become an English teacher in Japan.

My main fandom at the moment is Bleach, followed by Merlin and various other anime/manga and a few staple book and TV series, Harry Potter and Hornblower included. Most fandom flailing will be revolving around Bleach and my OTPs therein. Be warned. :D

What are your Bleach OTPs? I honestly don't have any - minor ships yeah but they change like the wind :)

Quick question do you know of any anime conventions in Auckland around End June -July? I'm kinda planning a trip and I'm missing out on one here that I would like to replace with another whilst in Auckland :)

Lol, my Bleach OTP is Byakuya/Renji (and my favourite character is Byakuya... so much awesome!) but I dabble in (no particular order) Grimmjow/Ichigo, Ichigo/Renji, Ichigo/Rukia, Aizen/Gin, Gin/Kira, Ukitake/Kyouraku, Ukitake/Kaien, Urahara/Yoruichi and Byakuya/Hisana ^^"

As for cons, the only one I know of is Doujin Overload which is on the 25th of July in Auckland, but that might be a little late. New Zealand has very few conventions, and I can only get to one, two at a pinch :(

My husband named his car Byakuya (a black Subaru) so I bought him a phone strap to go on his keys, it is really quite cute :D
I'll keep that date in mind as it might work out :) Thanks.

Welcome back! Looks like we're on the same track here, bb. I'm graduating High School, and I'm planning to take up International Studies majoring in Asian Studies when I get to college. It's about 2 months from now before I graduate.

Anyways! Bleach love, y/y? My OTP is GrimmIchi, but y'know, I ship like there's no tomorrow. There's also RenIchi (or vise versa), ByaRen, and etc. Question, though. Could you read jap text?

I've always been meaning to come back to LJ, but never had the time ><

Good luck with your graduation! I take it you still have exams to go?
I really enjoyed my Asian Studies papers. Mine was just a jumble of history and literature and popular culture (this year's paper is just pop culture, focusing on music and anime = heaven!)

I loved GrimmIchi since their first fight and my heart exploded when Ichigo saved him from Nnoitra ^o^

I'm just a second-year Japanese student, so I take forever and ever to read anything and sometimes still don't understand :( I've bought doujinshi and manga in Japanese to practice, though. If you ever need help with doujinshi scanlations I'd be happy to do some Photoshop editing or typesetting :D

Yup. I'm planning to graduate with honors... but we'll never know. I'm trying real hard though, so we'll see what'll come out of it.

That's great! I hope you do good in your studies, and I'll do the same as well. :3

Cool, do you have experience in editing? =D We'd love to have you in the team! We're still going to make our debut, and at the moment we're getting ready for it. (Actually, if you're familiar with Strawberry Poison - berry_poison, we're actually from there. But the group died and my co-founder didn't want anything to do with it anymore, so I'm starting anew.)

I haven't edited for any groups so far, but I've done a few tests for applications that I never handed in. I can't find them now, but I'll do a few sample pages if you'd like. I've been using Photoshop since PS 5 and I'm now using CS4 so at least I have experience in that respect ^^"

I loved the Strawberry Poison releases! I only discovered you guys late 2009, and I was disappointed to see that you weren't releasing much more. Nice to see you're getting it going again!

Haha, yeah. At this point, I do most of the typesetting and whatnot. I have some people cleaning, but two is just... two. And we have four translators at the moment.

I think you'll do fine! For some tutorials, check out these sites:
(DP's site isn't working for me right now)

As for your "test", try this doujinshi (20pages):

Hmm, I think you have a grasp of the idea in editing, so I'll just point out some points:
- Mode to grayscale (colored pages stay colored of course =P) > Auto levels > Auto contrast > Level (that works for most cases, but you can use your own method, of course ^^). Then rotate and crop.
- As much as possible, erase all texts and sfxs.
- No need to erase the author's note.
- Don't erase the symbols, like hearts, sparkles, and whatnot.
- Redraw!
- If there are spreads (pages that could be connected), try connecting them if you could.
- After editing, resize the pages to 1400px in height.
- Save it as .tif (it's on the dropdown menu, the last option) Tiff files ensure quality! =D

That's mostly it, I think. Hope I didn't miss anything.

Oh, and about rotating, just rotate if the page isn't straight enough. You can prove its "straightness" by using the marquee tool and checking the lines if its parallel to it.

Like so: http://i46.tinypic.com/8z2vpw.jpg
(That page isn't straight) :D
